Australian actress Miranda Otto, Eowyn in the "Lord of the Rings" movies, will play Lindy Chamberlain in the miniseries "Through My Eyes." Set to air on Australia's Seven Network, the four-hour movie is the latest interpretation of one of the nation's most controversial stories of the past 25 years.

In 1980, Chamberlain gained notoriety with her claim that her baby, Azaria, was stolen from her campsite near Ayers Rock by a dingo. The wife of a minister, Chamberlain was tried and convicted of murder only to be set free years later when a crucial piece of evidence was discovered, confirming her dingo story.

"Through My Eyes" will begin production on May 10 with a budget of $5.6 million (USA), taking Chamberlain's own memoirs as its basis. Chamberlain will also serve as a consultant on the project.

The story was previously told in the 1988 feature "A Cry in the Dark," which earned Meryl Streep an Oscar nomination. It also became the subject of the recent opera "Lindy."

"If this had been a Rottweiler grabbing a baby in a backyard in Sydney, although shocking, it would not have had the impact of this story," Otto tells The Hollywood Reporter. "Its iconic elements -- Uluru [Ayers Rock], the outback, a dingo, a young married couple, a baby girl -- are mythical, and the media pounced on this. A little baby girl taken in the center of Australia by native dog, in some way it relates to one of our greatest unconscious fears as Australians: fear of the land and its power."

In addition to her work in the final two movies of the "Lord of the Rings" series, Otto has appeared in the features "Human Nature" and "The Thin Red Line." She can next be seen in "Danny Deckchair" and the remake of "The Flight of the Phoenix."
